Physical Education

Northway Infants strives to ensure that all children are physically and active opportunities are utilised throughout the day and across the curriculum. PE lessons are focused on children learning, practising and consolidating new skills and knowledge which will prepare them to be active and lead healthy lives as they grow and mature.

It is our aim for all children to attend extra-curricular clubs which provide enrichment and the children learn the importance of keeping their bodies and mind healthy and active through the curriculum and in PE lessons.

We believe that physical education should provide children with opportunities to be creative, competitive, co-operative and to instill a life long love for being active. We aim to promote positive attitudes toward healthy lifestyles.

By following the Primary PE Passport curriculum, our children are nurtured into making choices about being involved in lifelong physical activity and to see the positive effects exercise has on both their mental and physical well being.

All children participate in a two PE sessions per week, and also have the opportunity to attend extra-curricular school clubs run by staff and specialist coaches.

In addition we purchase membership to the ‘Move More’ scheme and are able to attend dance, tennis and multi-skill festivals and give children experience of fun activities like balance ability and inclusive sports.

At Northway our Sport Council has successfully initiated our popular Wheelie Wednesday and Fit Five sessions which provide additional physical activity. Wheelie Wednesday is a firm favourite with the children - and the adults too!

We also run our very own Northway Sports Star Award where the children work towards different challenges - Reception children have Bronze challenges, Year 1 have silver and Year 2 have GOLD! These are awarded at the end of the school year in a special Sports Star Assembly!

The Healthy Herald is published termly to showcase the opportunities and curriculum teaching which takes place at our wonderful Infant School.
